El Club Maza Deportivo Social (CMDS) comenzó con el nombre de «Sportman Club Maza». El día 18 de mayo de 1916 se formó la 1era comisión provisoria y desde ese día quedó conformado el club. Entre 1943 y 1944, se iniciaron los trámites para conseguir la personería jurídica y es ahí donde nace el nombre actual porque no se aceptaba «Sportman» por ser vocablo extranjero.
